Healthy Eating Tips + The Best Healthy Cookbooks

Jun 30, 2020

I asked you guys for all your healthy tips two weeks ago and you sent me some great ones. ! I am not a dieter by any means, I truly love food and believe in the 80/20 plan of being good most of the time but also indulging. That being said I don’t know if it is Covid boredom eating or the fact that I turned 40 and my metabolism is slowing down but I am a solid 10 pounds up from where I like to be. I don’t weigh myself, I judge this based on how my clothes fit but I was weighed at the doctor a few weeks ago and saw the number on the scale and was like time to reign it in. I knew it was coming my shorts and jeans had just felt tight and I felt bloated.

Anxiety makes me want to eat and drink wine, so these uncertain times most definitely made me feel more uneasy and then in turn stress eat. Also I thrive on being on a schedule and being on the go. Being stuck at home I realized I was snacking and hungry all the time- part boredom, part anxiety,

I have been trying to make some small lifestyle changes. If I do a complete diet overhaul I will quit, but I find making small changes helps. My Apple Watch has really helped to inspire me to be more active. I aim for at least 10,000 steps a day and try and close all 3 rings. I was making lattes almost every morning and I have switched back to black coffee with the occasional latte as a treat. I have started carrying my 32 oz hydro flask everywhere to help me drink more water. I started back with a trainer 2 times a week. I try and eat dinner early with my kids before 7 and don’t eat after 7. I have cut back on alcohol during the week. I intermittent fast probably 5 out of 7 days now. For the most part during the week I try and avoid processed foods and just eat Whole Foods. My go to snacks are frozen blueberries, oranges, apples, string cheese or a brown rice rice cake with almond butter. I also have a bag of fresh local produce delivered weekly to my house via Community Supported Grocery store. I love this so much and it inspires me to cook more veggies. I drink Sakara detox or sleepy tea at night, they help fill me up and replace my wine.

For this post I just wanted to focus on tips and my go to healthy cookbooks. I will compile another post with healthy recipes I love and ones you guys sent me.

All of these are filled with wonderful healthy yet delicious recipes. Several are plant based, I like not eating meat everyday and tend to gravitate towards vegetarian meals. They all offer something a little different and they have pictures which is key for me-haha! You have a favorite cookbook not pictured I would love to know what it is!

I love daily harvest for eating healthy and keeping weight in check when busy. The smoothies are amazing and the bowls are so great for lunch or for times you want something healthy quick but you are busy tending to the kids or in the go. Everything comes frozen so you put them in the freezer. The bowls you can heat in the microwave for five minutes and the smoothies you add either almond milk or water and then blend. The mint, strawberry peach and chocolate blueberry are my favorites and the banana green and Acai cherry are good too. I love the cauliflower pesto bowl and the Brussels sprout Thai. The coconut bites are such a yummy snack. The ingredients are all organic and whole and it is gluten and dairy free. It is great to have in your freezer if you are looking for a quick healthy meal fast.
