I wanted to start something fun for the New Year where I showcase some of my favorite artists. There are so many artists I am a huge fan of, especially right here in Charleston. Jenan McClain is one local artist I adore.

Jenan attended The Fine Arts Center in Greenville and then the College of Charleston and graduated from Clemson. Her career before she started her art business was international luxury real estate development. Jenan lived in the Caribbean for several years (hello I am jealous) doing that job and also on the side created art programs for local schools. It was there and from her travels to other islands that she became especially inspired by nature and her surroundings. Water is a huge inspiration for her and her latest work is heavily inspired by the salt marshes and flora of the South Carolina Coast.

She primarily works with acrylic and oil pastels. What I personally love is how heavily textured her paintings are, she applies layers and layers to create her signature look.
