Today I wanted to share a few real life thoughts. We all like to look at pretty clothes and good food but sometimes you just gotta keep it real.
– We have officially hit the Terrible 2’s with Frances I am talking about full on tantrums in public and often. If you tell Frances no she does not like it. She flings herself on the floor and screams. Then when I try to pick her up she stiffens up her body so it is hard for me to lift her, it’s beyond embarrassing. This was taken after I told her it was too cold to wear her bathing suit- I am clearly such a mean mom.
– I have been going to Barre class regularly for about 6 weeks. Before I started barre I was certain I was fairly fit. I run and walk and I am fairly active. I was so wrong. I got to class and could not physically lift myself off the ground to do a sit-up. My ab muscles were shot. I saw 60 year old ladies pumping out sit-ups and I could not do one. I am slowly making progress but damn its hard.
-Then the downside to exercising more often, is I am hungry all the time. I am not losing weight because I am eating more.
– Sterling’s new favorite word is poop. Drives me nuts
– Speaking of poop every time we go into a nice store he has to poop. It never fails, my mom and I joke about it now. As soon as we walk in he has to go and can’t hold it and of course it always smells horrible and takes him forever.
– Both of my kids have suddenly turned into the pickiest eaters. All they want to eat is pimento cheese, applesauce and oranges. It frustrates me to no end they won’t try what I cook.
– Instead of showing her belly Frances is now obsessed with showing her “hiney.” This should bode well for her collage days.
– Every single morning Frances checks to see if I have underwear on. As soon as I lift her out of her crib she lifts up my robe and says “mommy have gina, mommy wears panties. ” I have no idea why but she likes to make sure mommy is covered up- haha
– Our oven has been broken for about a month. We have a new one but didn’t realize what long process it was to have gas run to our house since we didn’t have an existing gas line before. We have been using our toaster oven to cook the majority of our meals and I have to say you really can cook almost anything in a toaster oven! I miss my oven though and can’t wait to get the new installed hopefully next week. Maybe Sonja Morgan was onto something with her toaster oven line:)
– My kids think seltzer water is coke. I think maybe because it is carbonated like coke they think it is the same. I love it they ask for a coke and I give them a seltzer and they are happy.
– It never fails as soon as I get on the phone both of the kids start having a total melt down. They can be outside or back in their bedrooms but I swear they sense when I am on the phone and come in just to bother me. I was having a conference call the other day and Frances screamed the entire time. I actually had to go outside to talk and watched her scream through the window.
– 90% of the time my car looks like a homeless person lives inside. There is always crushed food, papers, and toys everywhere. That is until my parents come to town. I always vacuum it before my parents come because at the ripe old age of 35 I still don’t want them judging me because my car is dirty. When they are not in town it is a hot mess.
– My past two shellac manicures I have peeled the nail polish off every single nail. I have no patience to wait to have it removed and strangely I like the satisfaction of peeling it off- so weird I know.
– Last night I rode in an Uber that smelled like rotten eggs, at first I thought it was the sewer but alas I think the driver had horrible gas. It was so bad.
– I yell at my kids more than I wish I did
– I am addicted to my phone. I can’t go to bed or wake up without immediately grabbing it and checking emails and scrolling instagram. It is a horrible habit.
– The other day we had cashier whose gender was questionable and Sterling loudly goes ” is that a girl or a boy I can’t tell.” I wasn’t totally sure so I just tried to pretend like I didn’t hear it. I love when kids say embarrassing things.
– Frances beats up Sterling every single day. I had no idea a 2 year old could make a 6 year old cry so much but it happens several times a day. It is like a role reversal. I try to tell Sterling to toughen up and Frances to be nicer:)
– I love to throw away toys when the kids are not looking. I am always finding random pieces that go to who knows what and I immediately chunk them.
– I came home to this scene the other night after Matt watched the kids while I was at Supper Club. He was “too tired” to clean up. He promised he would clean it the next day but I am too OCD and had to clean it all immediately.
– I turn 36 in a few weeks and I am not gonna lie starting to be in the upper 30’s is starting to freak me out. All I notice now are my wrinkles and fine lines.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Classic, love this! this was totally my life when my kids were a little younger…it's gets better. Not much better but a little. And my son had a favorite toy store where he always had to go to the bathroom so once when he was constipated I drove him over and sure enough, a few minutes after playing with the trains we had success!!
After a morning that has seen everyone in our house in tears, I really needed to read this. Thanks for sharing!!!
i LOVE these posts and can relate SO much!! 🙂 Happy Friday!
You deserve a few cases of wine for being so candid. I think we all feel the same way. You have the most relatable blog and the best recipes. Wish you lived in Atlanta!

Holy sh*t. I nearly spit my coffee out with the "mommy has gina". And my 8 year old GIRL has to poop at every restaurant we go to. Thought that was for boys only?!?! This is my fave post in a long time! 🙂
I love these and share many of them with you!!
The tantrums are so annoying. SS went through that too and it drove me bananas. However I totally used the stiffening trick whenever my sister tried to fight with me growing up and it worked like a charm. Ha. So maybe she just excels at self defense? The uber thing is hilarious! TGIF.
the coke thing is so funny. if only we adults could trick ourselves into thinking that juice blends are cocktails, ha! hey, sometimes i put mine in a wine glass just because… 🙂
Such truth, mama! We've all been there.
I can relate so well, I love your blog!
These cracked me up. We are so alike. I am total OCD about messes too. I also throw away toys when my kids aren't looking. They are 8 and 6 and they really don't even play with toys any longer! I am having a huge rummage sale this summer and they are going to freak when I want to sell all their crap. 🙂
36 is young! Oh man I would love to be 36 again. That's how old I was when I got married!! Now I'm almost 47. GAG. UGH. And I'm finally starting to see some wrinkles. My worst skin problem is now redness and my pores. It's always something! I guess guess being older is better than the alternative right? lol
Have a good day!
I love this! I appreciate your "realness"!
This is the best. I'm off to read it again.
Love this – and literally laughed out loud with the Francis underwear bit – hysterical!
Your blog continues to be the one I read first every single day. You have a great variety of fashion, food, and home and you always keep it real. I admire your honesty, it is really hard to put things out there for others to judge and you do it really well. Keep it up!
I never leave comments, but read your blog every morning at my desk after checking emails, and literally laughed out loud in my office while reading this post. My four year old had about 3 break downs yesterday morning before we even made it to school so I feel your pain. Thanks for this post, it was honest and hysterical, a great start to my Friday!
I have 17 month old twins and this made me laugh till I cried. This is literally the best thing I have ever read on a blog. Period!
Love this! It's so nice to know we all go through the same stuff. I turned 36 last month and have an 18 month old son. Feels like I'm chatting with a friend when I read your blog – thank you for sharing!
What a great post. I have a boy and girl the same ages as yours, and I feel like I could have written this post myself. It made me laugh out loud (and made me feel better that my son always saying poop and both of them flashing their bottoms is not so abnormal). Have a great weekend!
Loved this! Hilarious! I too throw out toys when my kids aren't looking!
OK, I just laughed really hard. I think we have a lot in common. When my older kids were little my rule was don't bother Mommy when she is on the phone unless there is blood or something is on fire. Two pretty simple rules. They couldn't do it…ever!
A month ago my six year-old daughter said, "Tomorrow it's gonna be cold as the F-word out." Luckily, she said "F-word" and not the actual word. We ignored it and she has not done it again.
THANK YOU so much for keeping it real! Honestly, motherhood can be a real kick in the pants most days. There is joy in every day….but there is a lot of "poop" too. ha! I have 4 little ones and it's a miracle if I can get an email out or quietly peek at my phone.
I have to tell you though- your blog brightens my day! It sparks a little joy in my day and I'm grateful for that. Thank you for sharing of yourself!
You're killing me! These confessions are too funny!I am also the exact same way when it comes to gel polish!
you are seriously not alone in almost all of these! my 21 month old is very similar to FM! My 4 year old is a lot like Sterling – mature, smart and sweet – no time for little sister's shenanigans! I told my hubs come March we are throwing away all the candy/chocolates in our house, but at my going rate there will be none left – I am constantly eating them all! Thanks for sharing xo
Love this post. I feel like we could be friends in real life. Haha
I wore my bathing suit underneath all of my clothes until I was like 4 or something haha. I'm sure it drove my mom batty and I feel bad about that now! I hope you have a great weekend with your parents!
My daughter is about two months younger than Frances, and we are in the thick of the tantrums. I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with them, but very happy to hear someone else is in my boat! G has mastered the stiff body, and now holds her arms above her head when I try to pick her up so she slides through my grasp and screams at me, "NO MOMMY NO!" like I'm abusing her. Wrangling with a 35 pound screaming toddler when you're 7 months pregnant is the pits. She had two unexplained meltdowns in Panera last night just when my elderly parents are taking her to their house for five days. My mom looked at me in horror and asked, "how am I going to handle this?" Good luck, Grandmom. Hello, five days of sanity and adult conversations!
I love every single part of this post! Thanks for being so real and thanks for the laugh 🙂
Thanks for keeping it real mama! Love this post!! Happy Weekend!
Bahahahahaha this is GREAT! I love these posts they are the best!
Thank you for posting this! I totally agree and I'm relieved I am not alone..
This is so on point. I hide in my closet when I have to make an important call, all 4 of my kids take turns embarassing me at different stores, I have already thrown away so many pieces of toys from just this past Christmas and then when they ask abt it I let them believe they lost it lol. Is that bad?
Thank you for posting this (and for making me feel like I'm totally not going bonkers)! I laughed out loud at Sterling's favorite word and how Francis beats him up. My 2 year old beats up my almost 4 year old! Thank you for keeping it REAL!
Amen! I think we all have been there. Thanks for being so honest 🙂
Everything one of these things ring true to me as well! So very glad to not be alone:-) My almost 6 year old and 3 1/2 year old say the word underwear constantly! The younger one beats up on his older brother just like what happens in your house. My oldest still has pooping accidents which makes me want to go out of my mind with frustration. My youngest will not potty train for the life of him and meanwhile I feel like a failure. Most of the time they eat Eggo wafflers, waffles or pancakes or grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, pizza or cereal. I have no idea how they manage to grow! Thank you so much for keeping it real and sharing! Motherhood is hard and we all need to share and keep it real to get through the hard stuff. Bonding over a glass of wine and yummy dessert doesn't hurt either:) PS My boys also love to either throw fits in public places or chase each other around like a bunch of crazies. I cringe with embarrassment each time they do it and they just won't stop.
This has been your best post since I have started following you last year! I have a almost 6 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. The fighting, the toys, the car,,,,it's all chaos! I can relate to so many things you "confessed". It's a lot but I wouldn't trade it for the world….unless it was my own private island, luke bryan to myself, and unlimited great cabernet….then I might have to think twice.
I have 2 year old twins … HYSTERICAL POST!! I feel your pain, have your pain and wine for the pain is a good way to end a week … Thanks for being real and enjoy your weekend!
LOL! Thanks for being sharing!
LOL! Thanks for sharing real life!
This is the best post ever!!! So relatable. 36 is the pits.
Thank you for being so honest Natalie. I know this must have been hard to share. Since we are sharing, I have to admit that the kids knowing that we are on the phone thing has really put a damper on my relationship with my sister over the years. I never know when is a good time to call. It's sad I know. Life has it's good times and frustrating. I love your blog with the pretty clothes and the realist in you too! Thanks! Alie
Oh man do we have things to look forward to when our little Sully reaches her terrible 2s! You, indeed, are super Mom!! I'm with you on the shellac manis, I always peel them off. Cheers to the weekend lady, hope y'all have a tame one. 🙂

I love this ! Your honestly is awesome and I feel 99% of what you wrote involves my life at one time or another 🙂
These were great! I just subscribed to your blog a few weeks ago because I find your posts both interesting and relatable. This one falls into the relatable category! I can totally relate to the car comment, except I don't even bother to clean it for my parents! The worst are the milk atoms on the leather — they just won't go away no matter what I try! Thanks for keeping blog land more than just perfect pics 🙂
Nat – this was awesome and I totally do the same thing with my gel manicures!
I love this post! You are so honest and real. You are my favorite blogger.
These are great! Boy, can I relate to chaos when I'm on the phone! I can't tell you the number of times I've had to go outside (just last week actually…in 25 degree temps.!) to talk & watch my 3-year old screaming & crying from inside the window. Lol! Thanks for sharing…it gave me a good (and relatable) laugh!
Best post ever! So real, so true, so funny and I so relate!!
RIGHT. ON. SISTER! Loved everything about this post. And DITTO to every damn thing!
What everyone else said–this was awesome 🙂 Thanks for the much-needed laugh!! Oh, the shit kids say…
