Cheesy Baked Cabbage

May 28, 2019

Lots of you requested the recipe for this baked cabbage. I can’t take any credit for this recipe, my Dad found it via the Pioneer Woman and cooked it for me for Mother’s Day and it was amazing! This is not a healthy recipe but it is sooooo good. Cabbage topped and baked with a creamy cheese sauce with jalapenos, yes please. I am still dreaming about it, it was so delicious. Enjoy!

C H E E S Y B A K E D C A B B A G E via Pioneer Woman

  • 1 head Cabbage, Cut Into 6 Or 8 Wedges
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter, Plus More For Greasing The Pan
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1-1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 whole Container Cheez Wiz
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup Grated Pepper Jack Cheese
  • 1 whole Jalapeno Pepper, Sliced Into Rounds, Seeds Removed
  • Paprika For Sprinkling

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9-inch-by-9-inch baking pan.

Bring a medium pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Parboil the wedges of cabbage for 1 ā€“ 2 minutes. Drain very well, slice off the cores, then arrange in the prepared baking dish.

In a nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for a minute or two. Whisk in the milk and cook until beginning to thicken. Turn off the heat and stir in the Cheez Wiz. Sprinkle in salt and pepper, then stir in the grated pepper jack. Pour over the cabbage. Dot with the jalapeno slices, and sprinkle on some paprika. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden and bubbly.

Note: This makes a good amount of cheese sauce, so could be enough for more cabbage if desired.

I’m going to try to make this low carb by using heavy cream instead of milk and omitting the flour – looks delicious! Thanks for sharing šŸ™‚
