Our Mountain Trip | Scaly Mountain +Highlands

Nov 16, 2020

We rented a house in Scaly Mountain,NC for a few days last week and it was pure bliss. Fall is my favorite season and I so miss having cooler weather and seeing the leaves change colors- we don’t have much of that here in Charleston! It was so nice to get out of town and have a change of scenery. We rented my friend’s uncle’s cabin and it was beyond gorgeous. It was nestled right on the top of Scaly Mountain and had incredible views! It was actually featured in Dwell magazine. The house was just so cool because of all the killer views and modern decor, I loved it! It is 2 bedroom 2 bath for those of you curious. You can check out the airbnb site HERE.

Coffee on the porch was one of my favorite things to do each morning. I would sit outside and just admire the beauty all around me. Frances Moon snapped this photo and it is actually pretty good!

There was the cutest spot in Dillard, GA called Julep Farms about 8 miles from our cabin. I think we stopped by all three days we were there. They have a coffee bar, gift shop and restaurant and the property is just gorgeous. They rent it out for weddings and events as well. They even have an area with little ponies and ducks to feed too!

The Bridal Veil Waterfall was a family favorite. This was right down Main road, right past Highlands. The sheer joy and excitement on the kid’s faces was priceless!

The kids also loved snow tubing. This was on Scaly Mountain right near our cabin. I was scared to do it because I hate heights but it was so fun! Wear secure shoes if you go mine flew right off!

Gem Mining | This was a must. I loved doing this as a kid and the kids got so excited about their finds! They actually found some really large stones!

We went into Highlands both days to shop around and eat lunch. It was about a 10/15 minute drive from our cabin. It is such an adorable place. We loved strolling Main Street.

Mountain Grocery | is a cute spot for a quick lunch or breakfast and also a great grocery store. We got steaks here and grilled them one night! Frances Moon said the grilled cheese was perfect.

Kilwins | Cute little sweets store. We got fudge and candies apples here.

Old Edwards Inn Wine Garden | Cute spot for drinks and to eat. We stopped for a quick drink here and took some family photos out front. Next time it would be fun for an adult only trip to stay here!

High Thyme | A cute lunch spot, we sat outside and they had a good diverse menu. I had the goat cheese toast with lettuce, tomatoes, fig spread and walnuts. I will be recreating this at home.

Julep Farms | This is back in Dillard, I mentioned at the beginning of this post. We had both dinner and brunch here. I just loved the atmosphere. The seared tuna was wonderful.

Such amazing views of the Blue ridge Parkway and Fall leaves everywhere.

We can’t wait to go back~

I LOVE Highlands, NC! We have a home on Lake Rabun (about 40 min. away) and have been going there since I was 2yrs old. Generally 5-10 times a year. Many, many, many yrs later and through all the changes, it is still fabulous. And Julep Farms…great new addition! So glad you enjoyed your getaway.
